Week 4: New Tool: Kahoot!
Are you looking for an upbeat and engaging way to formatively assess students? If so, Kahoot! is the way to go! Kahoot! is a game- based tech tool that allows students to compete by answering timed multiple- choice questions.
How does this platform work?
Students will need to sign into their Kahoot! app or access Kahoot! online and type in the game pin provided. Once students are signed in, questions are displayed on the board along with answer choices. All questions are displayed on the board, and you can decide how many seconds students have to answer the question. Once answered, students are privately shown whether their choice was correct or incorrect, and then on the main screen for all to see is the correct answer followed by the leader board. The leader board shows who is in the lead based on their answer streak of correct answers.
How I use Kahoot!:
1. This app is a great way to review before upcoming tests or quizzes. You can either create your own kahoot or search pre-existing kahoots.
2. Formatively assess students understanding of the topic, since displayed data is anonymous, yet teachers have access to what students answered correctly or incorrectly.
3. Engage in studying and/ or content based learning by having students participate in the activity!
Changes I could make in the future:
When using this platform in the future, I would try out the "pulse- check ins" feature that I have seen on Kahoot!, but have never used. This will allow me to collect student feedback and see how students feel about a certain topic or subject before beginning.
I love Kahoot!!! I use it as a classroom game or as an individual review assignment. I also love that I can search things that others have made! So nice that we can all share materials!

Yes! I love Kahoot! It has been such a great way to keep kids engaged during distance learning, while also giving them a bit of a "brain break". It's also great for kids that access live lessons/activities on a device other than a Chromebook.
ReplyDeleteMy students love Kahoot! I do not use it very often, but when I do it always receives cheers. I love that you can create your own content, or use content created by other teachers. It's a fun and easy way to engage students and to add variety to the content being taught.

Kahoot is so fun! I don't use it in my class because of lack of tech and the age group I work with, however we do use it in staff meetings and I've used it several times in my own schooling. If I had just slightly older students I would totally use Kahoot for content knowledge review! Thanks for sharing, I hadn't realized that we could search up and use pre-made kahoots from other people, that could be quite the time saver!

ReplyDeleteKahoot is a crowd favorite from my students! I have not used kahoot for a while, because I feel like there is always something else to do rather than "play" or "waste time" on kahoot but I know that my coworkers use it often to assess their kids. We are planning on doing a quick assessment this upcoming week covering subtracting integers and changing the subtraction equation to an addition equation so maybe I will suggest kahoot as our platform for this quiz!
DeleteKayla,
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Kahoot for a fun way to engage students. I find it to be especially helpful with math concepts. Many of my students who do not want to engage will even solve math equations to be able to play the game.
