Week 6: New Tool: Lexia

Lexia

Lexia is a school- wide online learning site that helps with students' development of oral language, reading, spelling, and writing skills for students. Students receive student-driven and teacher-directed personalized instruction when using Lexia, which can greatly benefit their learning. Students work independently through individualized learning activities. All students can work at their own pace. Educators are informed when students need help and/ or support.

How Lexia can be used in the classroom:

- Promotes targeted, individualized instruction
- Blended learning opportunities, if needed
- Offers students some choices and interactive game- like questions
- Offers teachers useful data and additional resources that cater to students learning needs

What Lexia provides for educators:

- Formatively assess students without traditional testing

- Provides individualized instruction for students to help meet them where they are

- Provides resources that can be used for enrichment and/ or during face- to- face instruction

Changes for future instruction:

When implementing future instruction, I can use Lexia not only during reading centers, but during English lessons as well. Lexia can help students improve their English skills, which could improve their understanding of the English language and common grammar rules.

  2. This sounds like a great tool! I don't think that it would be applicable for my middle school students, but I tutor a third grader that really struggles with reading and writing. This could be helpful! It's also a great tool to tuck away in my mind as I'm certified K-12 so you never know when I may need it!

  4. This sounds like such an amazing tool! I have a few students who are really struggling with their reading, phonics, and phonemic awareness, and this tool seems like it could be very helpful for them. I also have an English language learner that is not picking up the language as quickly as I would like due to hybrid learning. I am definitely going to try this with her!

    Kayla,

I think Lexia a paid subscription, isn't it? I have subbed in a school that used it and the teachers love it. They love the aspect that they can personalize it for individual students. That seems to be the new great "thing" in technology for students. When my daughters were in school (many moons ago) they did have tech in their classrooms, but nothing that personalized instruction and text for each student. There are many programs that do it now. It is such a great advancement.
