Week 11: New Tool: Screencastify
Screencastify
Screencastify is a free Chrome extension that can be used to record, edit, and share videos. Educators can use this tool to make interactive videos for students, and students can use this to make their thinking visible and express themselves through screen recordings.
Current uses:
I have currently been integrating this technology into my online learning platform so that I can deliver information and instruction to students via video. This helps me explain information while showing students my screen as well as examples. This is useful because it can benefit both my visual and auditory learners.
Benefits:
- Can be access through Google accounts
- Easy to use
- Records the screen so shy/quiet students feel more comfortable presenting
- Videos autosave so information is not lost if errors arise and can be shared easily
- Time limit for free version so videos do not surpass this time tremendously
Changes for future instruction:
In the future, I plan to have students use Screencastify to create videos/ presentations of their own to share with me and their peers. This would be beneficial for my more shy and/or quiet students, since they could be providing images, examples, etc. and do not have to show their face on camera. I feel that this will allow them to feel more comfortable sharing presentations with the class.
Kayla,
ReplyDeleteI love Screencastify! It was truly a savior to my school last year. We were able to record our entire screen. My district is about to return in person for the first time since March of 2020 and I plan to use Screencastify for my distance learning students. I also love that the recordings go straight to your Google Drive. It is definitely a must for hybrid learning! Thanks for sharing! (Week 11 response)
Kayla,
ReplyDeleteScreencastify became my good friend when we started this school year as this is how I was teaching my students. When we were on Google Meet, we would just play the videos and discuss because we did not want to have students miss out on new teaching. I am really glad that we have these pieces of technology to support teachers and students with teaching and learning.
