Week 13: New Tool: Quizlet

Quizlet

Quizlet is an app, similar to Brainscape discussed last week, that is used to help students create and study flashcards online. This can be accessed via web or mobile platform. Students and/or teachers can either create their own electronic flashcard set, or they can simply search and find sets that have already been published. This app is free and extremely easy to use.


Benefits: 
- Students can study vocab words from any device.
- Flashcards are electronic and in one space, so students will not worry about losing or misplacing their cards.
- Offers study and quiz modes so students can challenge themselves before upcoming tests or quizzes



Uses/ Changes to future instruction:
I can use this tool during future instruction when beginning a unit, so students can identify and record their terms electronically. I can also have students study their flashcards during free time using different modes, so they are challenging themselves. Since I can see the percentage they scored on quizzing themselves, I can view this score to see whether students know or need more practice identifying their terms. This will be beneficial for both students and parents because they can access the sets from any device to study.

    Hi Kayla,

    I forgot about Quizlet. I used it a lot in college but had not thought about implementing it in my own classroom. You bring up a great point about sharing the resource with families. Many of my families want to help their student but don't know how. Families could take advantage of a tool that was made for what their student is learning. As we are wrapping up our fraction unit, I think I could also have my students make a Quizlet highlighting the important information they learned in the unit. This would be a great challenge for them while reviewing the content. Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks for sharing this! As Karissa said, I also forgot about this app. I think this would be a great tool for students to keep track of all of their vocabulary words throughout a unit, year, or multiple years. I like that you address that this could even be helpful for parents.
